Next, we sat down with Susan, owner of Hing Lung BBQ House. They are a first-time Chinatown Dining Week participant.

Why did you decide to open the restaurant?

We decided to open this restaurant to carry on the tradition and culture of Cantonese-style BBQ food. Cantonese BBQ is something we’re passionate about, and we wanted to share it with more people through our store.

How long has the restaurant been open?

The store has been open for a good 30 years now. We’ve been working hard to serve up quality Cantonese BBQ, and people seem to really enjoy it.

What is the style of cuisine served at the restaurant?

Our specialty is Cantonese BBQ, the real deal from Guangdong, China. It’s got unique BBQ techniques and flavours that make it stand out. We want folks to taste authentic Cantonese cuisine right here.

What makes your restaurant special?

What makes us special is our experience – we’ve been at this for a long time. And we’re always trying to get better. We’re always trying new things, making sure our Cantonese BBQ is the best it can be.

Why do you think people should dine in Chinatown?

Chinatown is full of all kinds of Chinese food and other cuisines. Come on down, taste it for yourself, and enjoy this unique flavour adventure right here in Chinatown.

Do you have any hopes for the future of Edmonton’s Chinatown? 

We do have hopes for the future of Edmonton’s Chinatown. It would be great if it could go back to the way it used to be, you know? Like the old times, with a bustling community, vibrant businesses, and a lot of people coming around to enjoy the flavours of Chinatown.
