Chinatown Dining Week Profile: Xu Hue

We sat down with Le, owner of Xu Hue. They are a first-time participant in Chinatown Dining Week.

Why did you decide to open the restaurant?

I chose to open the restaurant here in Chinatown because it’s a vibrant place, and it has many existing Chinese and Vietnamese businesses. There’s a real sense of community, and I’ve become friends with many of the other owners around here. It just felt like the right place to be.

How long has the restaurant been open?

We’ve been open for 16 years now, starting back in 2008. It’s been quite a journey, and we’ve enjoyed every bit of it.

What is the style of cuisine served at the restaurant?

Our cuisine focuses on the central region of Vietnam, especially Hue – that’s where I’m from. We also offer dishes from various parts of Vietnam, and we’ve got some Chinese dishes too. The central Vietnamese cuisine tends to be a bit spicier, which I personally love. Customers can choose their preferred spice level, and I recommend trying our spicy noodles from the central region of Vietnam.

What makes your restaurant special?

Our restaurant is like a family affair. It’s all run by my family – my wife, daughter, and some other relatives. Everything, from the cooking to the spring rolls, is made from scratch, no shortcuts with pre-packaged stuff. We make sure our ingredients are fresh, and I even go back to Vietnam sometimes to learn new dishes and add them to the menu. So, you’ll always find something new when you come here – just come talk to me!

Why do you think people should dine in Chinatown?

Chinatown offers a variety of cuisines, a lot of choices, very diverse. It’s a chance to try something fresh and different.
